There’s just so much good stuff on the Web that it’s easy to forget some of it…
I keep forgetting about Paul Neave’s amazing Flash version of various maps of the Earth. Google’s good, and the street views are amazing sometimes, but even after all this time Paul Neave’s smooth zoom still leaves Google, Microsoft, Yahoo! and the others in the dust.
I can’t embed the site because WordPress only have confidence in Google Maps (not in Google Books, though!), but here’s a link:
Check out our car (the black one in the car park; it should be in the crosshairs). Scroll your mouse wheel (if you have one; otherwise just use the on-screen zoom control to the right) and see how responsive the image is.
Paul added rotational control for the maps literally years ago; even now, few sites even bother to provide it, except maybe for a paltry four points of the compass (and that’s usually four different views taken over the span of years sometimes).
Check out his main site – http://www.neave.com – for some pretty impressive stuff (IMHO).
